Best Toaster Ovens 2021 – Buyer’s Guide

Toaster ovens can be used to cook all sorts of food. They are usually made from stainless steel and have a glass door to see what is inside the oven. The best toaster ovens will also come with an automatic shut-off feature, which means that they won’t burn down your house if you forget about it for too long. You should always make sure that you check out reviews before buying one because they can help you find the suitable model for your needs. This article will list the top 5 recommendations we feel are the best choices in 2021.

1. Black and Decker Countertop Convection Toaster Oven – CTO6335S

This toaster oven has enough room to fit 12-inch pizzas, casserole dishes, and even a whole chicken! You can cook a wide variety of foods in this unit with two different rack positions. Convection heating technology is utilized for reduced cooking times and improved consistency.

This unit has digital controls. Eight preset buttons are there for cooking different types of food—Bake, broil, toast, bagel, pizza, frozen snacks, potatoes, and cookies. You’ll be thankful to have these handy buttons at your convenience if you do a lot of cooking!

A 2-year warranty is also included if the oven malfunctions (always make sure to read the fine print on these as some warranty policies are more restrictive than others). The oven weighs around 16 pounds. That’s relatively light for me to move around, but if I had to move it on and off the kitchen counter constantly, it could get annoying quickly. So I recommend making sure you have enough space on your counter to leave this guy setting out. The dimensions of it are 22.8 x 13.4 x 15.5 inches.

The stainless steel design will look great in most kitchens. It’s one of my preferred colors as I’ve worked in various commercial kitchens, and that’s pretty standard for them. Overall, this is a great oven, and I feel like you can’t really go wrong with it.

2. Oster Extra Large Digital Countertop Convection Oven – TSSTTVDGXL-SHP

This toaster oven sports quite a bit more capacity compared to the one above. You can fit two whole 16-inch pizzas in it! If you like a LOT of toast, you’ll be pleased to know that this guy can toast 18 slices of bread at once. Try doing that in a regular toaster! The dual shelves allow you to cook multiple foods at once-great for the holidays!

There’s plenty of temperature flexibility with its 200 to 450-degree range. There are six preset settings: pizza, bake, broil, toast, warm, and defrost. You can activate the “turbo convection” mode if you want fast and even cooking.  Also, an LCD screen shows you exactly how much time is left on each function, so you don’t miss anything.

Compared to your conventional oven, this one uses 50% less energy. The savings can add up quickly if you typically only cook in small batches. This oven weighs 26 pounds, so you likely won’t want to be moving it around much. Also, take note that it is 19.29 x 21.65 x 12.91 inches. I recommend having a permanent space on your countertop for this guy.

3. Cuisinart Convection Toaster Oven/Air fryer – TOA-60BKS

Here’s a toaster oven + an air fryer; how cool is that? This means you can use one appliance for both functions (less “kitchen gadgets” you have to find a home for, haha). You should note that this oven has less cooking capacity compared to Oster, but if you only cook in small batches, that shouldn’t be an issue in most cases. To give you a quick comparison, the Oster can toast 14 slices of bread simultaneously with its dual pans, whereas this one can only toast six slices with its single pan.

There’s no digital display on this oven, but it comes highly rated. There are seven functions: air fry, convection bake, convection broil, bake, broil, warm, and toast. The huge advantage here over other choices is the air fry function. With this feature, you can cook chicken or potatoes without oil.

This oven uses 1800 watts of power, so make sure you don’t use it on the same electrical circuit while using any other power-hungry appliances. The interior is nonstick, so it should be relatively easy to clean. Its dimensions are 15.5 x 14 x 16 inches, and it weighs 21 pounds.

4. Hamilton Beach 6-Slice Countertop Toaster Oven with Easy Reach Roll-Top Door – 31127D

Yes, this may not be the most giant oven featured, but this one has received many great reviews. It sports a roll-top door, allowing you to access your food safely. This also helps with cleanliness, as the door is out of the way when you’re pulling food out. This is a great model for limited counter space with its compact size.

It can cook up to 6 slices of toast or a 12-inch pizza. It will also take a 9×11 inch baking pan, allowing you to cook up some biscuits or cookies. The built-in 30-minute timer will remind you when to remove the food so you don’t forget and burn it. (if you haven’t burnt any food, are you a natural cook? Lol).

This oven features three cooking modes: bake, broil, and toast. The temperature dial goes from “min” (less than 150 degrees) up to 450 degrees. There are two rack positions for more precise cooking control.

There’s a removable crumb tray at the bottom for easy cleaning. The dimensions of this oven are 15.24 x 18.74 x 9.41 inches. It weighs around 11 pounds and uses 1400 watts of electricity.

5. Ninja Foodi 10-in-1 Smart XL Air Fryer/Toaster Oven – DT251

This is the most expensive one on our list, but it comes loaded with features. You can cook a wide range of food in it with its ten cooking functions. They are air fry, air roast, bake, whole roast, broil, toast, bagel, dehydrate, reheat, and pizza. A digital rack guide even shows you where to place the racks for each function. I know for me, as busy as life is, I could use a little more simplicity. So this seems like an excellent little addition.

This model is a smart oven because it utilizes the integrated Foodi Smart Thermometer. If you’ve ever had to temp food repeatedly, you’ll greatly appreciate the convenience of this. There’s a very short 90-second oven preheat time, and it provides up to 30% speedier cooking than a traditional full-size convection oven.

There’s plenty of room to cook food in this one. You can cook two 12-inch pizzas at once, or even a 12 lb turkey. If you need to feed many hungry mouths, you’ll be happy to note that this can cook two sheet pan meals at once.

The “True Surround Convection” provided by this model is worth mentioning. This cooking process includes 2-level cooking, so you don’t have to swap, rotate, or flip food. The XL capacity of this unit consists of an oven capacity of 14.47 W x 12.72 D x 11.08 H inches. Note that all of that room comes with a trade-off; you should ensure you have the proper kitchen counter space for it before purchasing. It weighs around 34 pounds and is bulky, so you probably won’t want to move it around much.

This oven uses up to 1800 watts of power. You’ll most likely want it on its own electrical circuit. 2 sheet pans and two wire racks are included with it. It also has a removable crumb tray for easy cleaning.

Choosing the Right Toaster Oven for You

If you’re like me, choosing is hard, lol. Personally, I like to do quite a bit of research before making a large purchase. You should consider the following points when picking a toaster oven.

Size/Capacity

If you are cooking for 1-2 people, pretty much any size will work. However, if you’re cooking for four or more, you should prioritize size when deciding. You’ll want an oven that is big enough to cook medium to large meals. Otherwise, the time it takes to prepare a meal will be significantly increased. On the flip side, you don’t want to purchase an oven too large for your kitchen counter space.

Cooking Features

Not all toaster ovens are the same when it comes to different cooking methods/features. For example, some, such as the Ninja Foodi 10-in-1, come with an air fryer feature as well. Some models also feature preset buttons for cooking different kinds of foods, whereas others may have dials that you have to set for each food manually. While this isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, it’s something you should consider.

Ease of Cleaning

You should consider the difficulty of cleaning the model you are considering. Grease and burnt food pieces can build up on the inside of toaster ovens. This not only can add some nasty additions to the food you cook, but it’s also a potential fire hazard. Pick an oven that is easy to clean so you’ll be more apt to keep it in tip-top shape.

Cost

Purchasing a toaster oven can be a somewhat sizable investment if you pick one of the more expensive ones (such as the Ninja Foodi 10-in-1). However, that investment could be worth it if you’re going to be using the oven quite often and cooking many different foods in it. Weigh out the features/benefits and make sure the cost you’ll pay for the appliance is worth it for you and your family.

Conclusion

Whether you’re looking for a traditional oven replacement or simply an addition to your kitchen arsenal, toaster ovens are great appliances.
